BECOMING 2.0 INSTRUCTOR

I this Blog you will be able to post on specific topics that I will be addressing to you.  On the other hand, if there is a topic you would want everyone in the course to discuss about, please do it in this Blog.

  2. First of all I want to thank you for all your effort. We all know that is not going to be easy to change the "old school" way of doing things. All the teachers are working hard in order to be updated and be part of this revolution called ICTC Interactive Classrooms Traing Course.
    Something that I wonder is... how are students going to understand all these changes? Especially those that have very limited access to a computer or newer technology due to lack of economic resources and adult students.
    Learning a new language and all the little bits and pieces of it, plus learning the new technology may put a block on learning one or the other, or both at the same time.
    Information overload...?
    We at CBA should be aware of these situations and be more understanding for it.

    I really hope you are enjoying this, and even though it may not be like that sometimes, there is no turning back. If you look ahead, the world is going towards the technological era; the longer one takes to realize it, the more complicated learning about technology will get at the time of wanting to be part of it. Besides, the fact that children and youth are already immerse in this world of tech force us to be part of it, otherwise, we will be contributing to make our generational gaps to be wider instead of narrower.

    I do understand your concern, and my answer to it may be hard, but this is what I think.

    As I have mentioned to Andrea in my prior comment the world is going towards that way, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. If we want our kids to be ready for the future and we believe we are responsible parents, then we should assume that if we want them to have the necessary tools to survive in life then we should try to give them to them so that they can deal with that any "hostile" environment; in this case a technological hostile environment.

    Now, think about what Mr. Charles Darwin said about his theory of Evolution -not that we want to get deeply on it- just to use one of his concepts. "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change". So if we take this concept, then those that cannot adapt or are willing to adapt to change, then are likely to disappear or struggle so much in life.

    There may be some Ss that probably do not have the economic resources or the technological resources at home, but we cannot wait for them until they have it. Will you be willing to risk your children´s future because of it? Now, I am not saying that those others that can´t be part of this world yet should be left to nothing, but that is why we have a Government and Institutions that have the obligation to think about solutions to these issues. We cannot handle everything, but instead do what we have to do in benefit of most.

    On the other hand, I agree with you that one problem that may raise is the overloaded information. My answer to this is that since it is unavoidable to stop the fluency of information, then we as educators must foster CRITICAL THINKING skills. We won´t always be there for our children, Ss, etc. at the time of taking decisions, so we must train them to "Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action. In its exemplary form, it is based on universal intellectual values that transcend subject matter divisions: clarity, accuracy, precision, consistency, relevance, sound evidence, good reasons, depth, breadth, and fairness" (http://www.criticalthinking.org/aboutCT/define_critical_thinking.cfm).

Wow, very very true and wise words right there! i TOTALLY agree with you Alvaro, just beacuse we are currently living in a third world country does not mean we should have to have a third world country mentally. We have to try move on with the rest (and if possible even be ahead of others) by not limiting how much we learn by making up excuses or waiting for others.
